3 Weeks

3 weeks ago today Miss Halle J entered this world. Feels like we have known her for way longer than 3 weeks but it also feels like the whirl wind just happened yesterday.

The last 3 weeks have been filled with lots of feedings, naps, dirty diapers and visits by our wonderful family and friends. Arce was able to be home with us for the first two weeks, which was amazing, I definitely couldn't have done it without him. He played the lotto everyday he was off in hopes of getting the lucky ticket and never having to return to work but we haven't gotten that lucky yet!

We have had two doctors appointments so far and Miss Halle is back to her birth weight and then some. This girl likes to eat :).

We are just amazed at how much she has changed in 3 weeks! I will update more again soon!

Halle's arrival....

OK so here is the play by play.
So after my 38 week appointment on May 20th, I started to get Braxton Hicks for the first time in my pregnancy. I got super excited and started walking a lot! The braxton hicks kept up for all of Friday. Then Saturday I woke up to NOTHING. Super bummed.
On Monday May 23rd- I woke up feeling energetic and wanted to go to Walmart to stock up on some snacks for after Halle arrived. 5 minutes into being at Walmart ((bad choice for so many reasons ;) )) my vision got spotty and I started to get a headache. I checked out immediately and went home and took my blood pressure. My BP was high so I called the nurse and she told me to lay down. I did and my BP went down again. She told me I would have to really just relax for the rest of my pregnancy. Again super bummed.
I woke up on Tuesday May 24th-morning with a ton of pelvic pressure. Around 9:30-10 am I started feeling what I  thought were contractions. I started timing them and they were like 7 min apart. Arce decided he needed to come home from work. He came home around 1 pm. My contractions were about 4 min apart at this point and I was having difficulty feeling Halle move so I started to get stressed out. We decided to go to L&D just to be on the safe side.
They had me lay down in triage for an hour to monitor her and my contractions. Her heart beat was strong for an hour and my contractions were consistently 3-4 min apart. I got a cervical check and was only at a "soft" 1 cm and 85% effaced. They wouldn't admit me until I was 3 cm because lord only knew how long I would be at 1 cm.
They told us to go get some food and hopefully they would see us back either early in the am or sometime the next day. We decided to go to Ruby's literally across the street from  the hospital. While we were at Ruby's my contractions felt like they got more intense. I had to gnarly contractions back to back. Right after that I felt a "gush". I decided I needed to go to the bathroom. In the bathroom, I wasn't completely sure what was happening. I went back and sat down to eat then felt it again and told Arce we gotta go, my water had broke! So less than a half hour later we were back at L&D. When we got back to labor and delivery the nurses looked at us like we were crazy. Luckily, we had an amazing triage nurse Penny and she took great care of us.
We got admitted to the hospital around 5 or 530pm on May 24th. Once my water broke my contractions intensified. Not only were they pretty strong but they were a good 1.5-2 min apart. Due to the lack of recovery time, I decided an epidural was something I needed in order to be able to push when the time came. Because my water broke on its own the doctors/nurses wanted to keep my cervical checks to a minimum secondary to increased risk for infections. So the nurse told me that I had pretty much let her know when I couldn’t bear it any more then they would check me and hopefully I would be at 4cm. I waited it out as long as I possibly could. Around 11pm or so I decided I needed to be checked. The nurse checked and said I was at a “soft” 2cm. BUMMER! The doctor came in and checked and said I was a “soft” 3cm but he could stretch me to a 4. Yep, I said stretch. That SUCKED big time. The doctor stretched me and inserted a pressure catheter ((to gauge the intensity of the contractions)). Worst 10 minutes of my entire labor. For some reason, whenever I moved, switched sides, went to the bathroom it triggered contractions. This stretching episode triggered like 10 contractions back to back and it was intense. Not to soon after my savior walked in...the anesthesiologist. He sat me up, did his thing and with in 10 minutes I was a different person. They started me on Pitocin to keep my labor moving. A few hours later, I could feel the pressure again. This pressure then turned into the urge to push. I pushed for about an hour and then was asked to stop pushing as the doctor was next door delivering another baby. I breathed through my contractions for a half hour and then the doctor came and about 20 minutes of more pushing later, Halle arrived. She started crying almost the minute her little head crowned. The minute we all heard her cry, the entire room (( Arce, me, my mom, mother-in-law and my Nanas)) started crying.
Overall, the labor was uneventful. I feel blessed to have had an “easy” delivery. I still can’t believe it all happened, I remember feeling like the day would never come. So happy to have our little girl here.
